Maokong

Maokong mountain is one of many mountains in Taipei. The mountain is riddled with tea houses, you can taste the tea that was grown on Maokong itself as you rest after completing a long trail. The views and wildlife will not disappoint as they are in abundance. So put on your most comfortable shoes and make your way there.

Like every mountain, it is possible to go up Maokong by hiking from all the way down, but most people use the famous gondolas.

The best way to reach Maokong station is to go all the way to Taipei Zoo station on the brown line then come out. The station is just 100 meters away.

The price to go all the way up using the gondolas is 100NTD each way. Once you have paid you can choose to either go into a regular gondola or a crystal one meaning you can see the landscape under your feet as you go up the mountain.

The gondola rides each take 20 to 30 minutes and all serve four stations: Taipei Zoo Station, Taipei Zoo South Station, Zhinan Temple Station, and the Maokong Station.

Once at the top, there are many restaurants where you can eat, but they can be a bit pricey especially if you are on a budget. Meals are 300NTD on average. There is also a supermarket where you can buy snacks and drinks, which might be more convenient.

Maokong has it all; breathtaking views, an abundance of wildlife, hiking trails, tea houses and tea plantations, restaurants, supermarket and more. It is a great place to go alone or to take the family, friends, young and old for a day out.
